Healed By Love

Erik and Scarlet came to the Pan American Health Service very close to death.

It was February 2007 when we arrived for our fourth visit to the Pan American Health Service in Pena Blanca, Honduras. We quickly made our way to the "Casita Feliz" where the desperately malnurished children are cared for. Our youth group from Oakhurst, California spent three years building this structure so these little sick ones would have a safe place to recouperate from the severe circumstances of their lives. Twins, Erik and Scarlet, had recently come for help. Three months old and weighing only five pounds these precious children were fighting for their very lives. Through the avenues of affection, care and a lot of nutritious food, life becomes a possibility for those hanging on by a thread. Often the loving affection and care is given by school aged children who know first hand what it means to be hungry, but because of this haven, have received not only life, but a home and an education. This is the mission of the Pan American Health Service; to give the needy a chance to live, grow, and give back to others.

Little Erik and Scarlet at 15 months are now thriving. On our fifth visit this last February they were plump and happy. What a transformation! And what a blessing to be a small part of helping a child have a chance at life. Thanks to all of you who have chosen to sponsor a child's education. You are giving these children the opportunity to become useful and productive adults who can change the outlook for future generations.
